PROJECT IN SHORT
An interchangeable modular system of textile pieces can be transformed by the user to create a new piece of clothing or interior accessories which promote sustainable design. Through playful experimentation with colour, shape and textiles I have created a product that can be altered over and over again, thus creating a sustainable product.
RESEARCH QUESTION
Can transformative textiles support sustainable design in our new nomadic way of life?
WHAT MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES HAVE YOU USED?
» I used a variety of materials such as leather, e-leather bonded with cashmere, wool felt and wood so the user has more choice, therefore creating a greater range of products. With regards to technique I used laser cutting and various printing processes; such as sublimation printing on wood, acid printing on wool felt, etching onto leather as well as handcraft techniques.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
» I was inspired by the fundamental geometric structure and patterns of growth found in nature. I could see how diﬀerent shapes were seemingly organised to create a ﬁnal product, reminiscent of children playing with Lego. This inspired me to create something that the user can continually refashion to create a sustainable product. «
WHAT DOES TEXTILE FUTURES MEAN TO YOU?
» I am personally interested in objects and spaces that have lost their value through use or abandonment. I want people to be able to rejuvenate these dead spaces and abandoned objects through transformative, multifunctional and interactive processes using modular textiles. «

Research Question Do emotional comfort designs give people pleasure during their travel?
Secondary question: Does having an awareness of personal identity give people (e.g. travelers in an airport) a sense of emotional security?
Consumers crave "personal meaning" in products and services. To innovate, new methods are being developed to help designers understand the emotions that drive consumer decisions (Formosa, D) “Fashion is an inherent feature of human sociality, it is a means of securing a social identity.” (Finkelstein, 1997) http://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/AHR/archive/Issue-March-1997/finkelstein.html Joanne Finkelstein argues that fashion does not give people a personal identity even though that is what it claims to do. It just makes them part of a group. All the time people are forced to be part of a group, at work, in school, in society, and yet the one thing that everyone wants is to have some sense of individuality. Without that sense of individuality there can be no emotional security. This growing awareness of that fact is why "Emotion" and "personal meaning" are finding their way into corporate strategic briefs, in places where words like gigabytes and baud rate used to reside. Even new descriptions of great design -- "easy," "accessible," "affordable," "empowering" and "personal" -- reflect on the person rather than the object.
Intended Outcome
This bag offers comfort to people and gives them an escape from their mundane everyday life based on organic shape and fractal structure of nature. Each pices of textiles is personalized to meet the needs of the customer and easy to fold and transform according to the their feeling and occasions. and Customers can make their own bag themselves.

Keywords  transformation, Interactive, communication, hybrid, fractal Research Question Can interactive and transformative textile bring more convenient and pleasure to our life? Rationale & Context Today’s textile design has developed as the technology advances. Also it shows the very close relationship with new materials, art and design as well as technological and scientific demand for consumers by leading the consumers with the variety to their fixed view. My innovation project based on fractal structures which suggest new fabrication. This formation is continuously changed their form and function as well as pattern and color. 1. Inspiration I was interested in human body and internal organ structure. During the investigation, I found very interesting factor that many parts of human internal organ formed fractal structure which is the smaller portions of the human circulation roughly resemble(to roughly resemble) the general structure. This fractal structures are chaotic forms that are complex even though only a few simple mathematical rules can produce their shapes. (Philip M, 1996) Using this structure, I made 3 dimensional forms through pleating fabric and hand cutting. 2. Experimental Result This fabric looks small pieces. However, when this fabric was wide out, this fabric can change into various shapes and forms. And when lamp in cloth was turned on by lampshade, the pattern and color were changed. The pattern also continually made small shapes by getting the inspiration of the fractal image and designed image of brain, the lungs, line blood vessel and etc or used geometric fractal form into pattern by simplifying pattern. And if the lamp is turned on by using Thermo chromic pigment, temperature is risen so the pattern of lampshade is disappeared or color and form are changed.
